A Backbone of Infrastructure

Copper is the backbone of American infrastructure; it carries power across the grid, wires our homes and connects the technologies we rely on every day. Meeting America’s growing infrastructure needs means producing and refining more copper right here in the United States.

That’s why the big news out of Arizona is worth celebrating. On June 24, Hudbay Minerals completed its acquisition of Arizona Sonoran Copper Company, uniting the Cactus project near Casa Grande with Hudbay’s Copper World project south of Tucson to create the third-largest copper district in North America with the potential to become the second-largest producer of copper cathode in the United States. This incredible combination puts Hudbay on a path to more than double its annual copper production by 2030, positioning the company as one of only a few operators capable of producing refined copper domestically, supporting the U.S. critical minerals supply chain, and generating thousands of Arizona jobs. Responsible American mining like this delivers the copper our growing infrastructure demands.
