Restoration is an important and cherished part of mining. This year, Kinross Alaska celebrated the return of salmon in Resurrection Creek, which was a site for the Alaskan gold rush in the 1890s. The Alaska Abandoned Mine Restoration Initiative, through Trout Unlimited and Kinross Alaska, restored over two miles of the stream and 74 acres of riparian habitat.
Today, Resurrection Creek is a popular spot for fishing and recreation. With the success of the restoration project, with the current phase having begun in 2021, locals and tourists alike can more greatly enjoy the beauty of the area, as well as the return of the salmon. Aims are high for the future, with further restoration and expansion of locations in 2026.
