NewRange Copper Nickel, which controls one of the world’s largest undeveloped deposits of copper and nickel, recently announced a forward-looking study encompassing four key areas of its NorthMet project to explore opportunities to enhance environmental safeguards and mining performance. The four key foci are tailings storage, water science, efficient production and carbon reduction. While the project already meets or exceeds permitting requirements, the studies draw from new global expertise brought in by the 2023 Glencore-Teck Resources joint venture. The goal is to ensure NorthMet, which has endured well over a decade of environmental review, remains on track to be a world-class, cutting edge domestic critical minerals mine the US desperately needs.
“As momentum continues to sustainably develop NorthMet, we are sharing our plans before studies are complete, because transparency and engagement with Tribal Nations, local communities and other stakeholders are foundational to the review process and contributes to development of a world class mine on Minnesota’s Iron Range,” said Tannice McCoy, NewRange President and General Manager.
