WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Mining Association (NMA) applauds the passage of the Critical Mineral Consistency Act of 2024 and urges the Senate to take up this bipartisan, bicameral legislation.
The Critical Mineral Consistency Act of 2024 creates much needed parity between the Department of Energy’s critical materials list and the Department of the Interior’s (DOI) critical minerals list. The lack of parity between the lists has created confusion and hampered interagency coordination while also excluding essential minerals, like copper, from certain tax credits, improved permitting processes or other benefits only granted to items on the DOI list.
“While we firmly believe all minerals are critical, this commonsense legislation is an important step forward,” said Rich Nolan, NMA president and CEO. “The Critical Mineral Consistency Act of 2024 is a win for American miners, for domestic supply chain security and is essential to ensuring domestic production can increasingly meet soaring demand. We applaud the leadership of Rep. Ciscomani (R-Ariz.) in making sure made-in-America can increasingly mean mined-in-America and urge the Senate to pass this important bill.”
