Coal Powers the U.S.

Coal provides reliable, baseload energy that can be depended on no matter what the weather, and stored on site. That’s why it is important to keep coal as part of our domestic energy mix – to keep the electricity on when it’s needed most. Moreover, domestic sources of coal are abundant here in the U.S., adding to our domestic energy security.

Peabody is a leading coal producer, operating in six U.S. states, including three operations in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. Its North Antelope Rochelle Mine in Wyoming produced 62 million tons of thermal coal in 2023 and employs over 1000 employees. Thermal coal mined in the U.S. supports our domestic energy and keeps the lights on.
