Coal to Rely On

Coal is a baseload power generation fuel that provides reliable energy for our power grid. As the heat ticks up in the summer, it’s even more important to have all of our energy options available, including coal. PJM Interconnection used a greater share of coal-fired generation during June’s heatwave, reaching 19.8 percent of PJM’s fuel mix.

That coal comes from American mines like those of CONSOL Energy, a Pennsylvania-based producer of thermal and metallurgical coal. Its flagship operation, the Pennsylvania Mining Complex, produces approximately 28.5 million tons of coal per year. CONSOL and its predecessors have been mining coal for more than 150 years and CONSOL brings with it expertise and dedication to safety. They’ve been powering America since 1864, and we can rely on the coal produced to power our lives.
