WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Mining Association (NMA) today released the following statement from Rich Nolan, president and CEO of the NMA, on news reports that the Biden administration is expected to block Alaska’s Ambler Road project:
“It’s hard to comprehend how the White House plans to secure our mineral supply chains when it continues its egregious record of reversals on important projects like Ambler, widespread and unnecessary land withdrawals, and inaction or obstruction on responsible projects in mineral rich areas across the country. The Ambler Mining District is home to extensive deposits of minerals and holds the promise to be a secure, reliable U.S. supply-chain resource, with the Ambler Access Project vital to creating the transportation infrastructure needed to access it.
“This project has previously been approved by the appropriate federal agencies. This 180 on a responsible project that will support Alaska’s economic prosperity and job growth while reinforcing U.S. supply chain and national security is completely incompatible with the sound minerals strategy our country sorely needs.”
