Proposed Rail Rule Promotes On-Time Performance

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  The National Mining Association (NMA) issued the following statement from Rich Nolan, CEO and President, in support of this week’s proposed Surface Transportation Board (STB) rule designed to improve service among the nation’s Class 1 railroads.

“The STB has listened to shippers’ concerns, examined the issues, and responded with proposed performance standards that will directly address inadequate and continuously deteriorating rail service. For years, shippers have been left with little recourse and lost revenues, ultimately weaking the full spectrum of U.S. supply chains. As the largest user of the nation’s rail networks by volume and the industry that feeds our manufacturing and energy supply chains, this solution is sorely needed by the mining industry and every other industry that depends on the materials we supply.”
