Demonstrating Safety in Mine Rescue Competitions

Safety is an area of continuous improvement and constant practice, and that’s why mine rescue competitions help teams prepare for the worst. This year, a team from The Doe Run Company was awarded first place overall in the 2023 Southwestern Regional Mine Rescue Contest in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Out of their competitors, three were previous national champions.

“Through intense training and competing in high-pressure scenarios, our mine rescue teams are honing their skills to work together effectively in a real-life crisis,” said Kevin James, environmental health and safety manager at Doe Run. “These competitions are crucial for our teams to stay prepared and equipped to handle any situation that comes their way.”

Beyond the team’s success, The Doe Run Company has focused on safety, with employees completing more than 37,000 hours of training in 2022, including health and safety training.
