NMA Urges Passage of the U.S.-Chilean Tax Treaty

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rich Nolan, President and CEO of the National Mining Association (NMA), today commented on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s favorable vote to move the U.S.-Chilean Tax Treaty to the full Senate for consideration. The treaty, first signed in February 2010, has been pending ever since.

“This Treaty has been awaiting ratification for more than a decade – we must move forward to ensure the success of U.S. companies that invest in Chile and to level the playing field with their foreign competitors. Chile is a key mining jurisdiction, where U.S. companies engage in a full range of activities – from mining the minerals that are key to advanced energy technologies to selling equipment and services to other mining interests that operate in Chile. Prompt ratification will protect U.S. investment in Chile and support our economy.”
