NMA Statement on DOD Report Calling for Domestic Supply of Minerals Essential to National Security

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rich Nolan, president & CEO of the National Mining Association, issued the following statement responding to the Department of Defense’s (DOD) State of Competition within the Defense Industrial Base report and its call-to-action for domestic mineral supply chains:

“The Department of Defense’s specific call for policy interventions to accelerate the development of reliable, domestic sources of minerals supply is a call that can no longer be ignored. Year after year the U.S. watches from the sidelines as our minerals import dependence continues to increase. At the same time, our allies – and geopolitical rivals – are developing comprehensive plans to secure their own minerals supply chains to manufacture the essential technologies of today and tomorrow. The time for action is now and the need is urgent. There’s no meeting the nation’s energy transition needs, winning the electric vehicle race, or building a secure domestic manufacturing and defense industrial base without prioritizing mining right here at home.”
