In the latest edition of NMA Newsmakers, Caterpillar group president Steve Wunning discusses his company’s commitment to manufacturing equipment that extracts raw materials to alleviate energy poverty and minimizes mining’s environmental footprint.
“Access to affordable and dependable energy resources is critical for energy security, economic prosperity and growing economies,” Wunning says in the video. However, as Wunning points out, one in five people still do not have the electricity necessary for development, education and a vibrant economy. “Energy challenges are great and we all have a role in helping shape a future where everyone has access to affordable, clean energy,” Wunning said.
Caterpillar works with companies who use its equipment to help find ways to meet the world’s energy needs in an efficient and sustainable way. Sustainably, Wunning says, “is not something we do—it’s who we are.” Caterpillar is devoted to having a “significant positive impact on our world by coming up with innovative solutions that meet the world’s need both today and in the future in the most sustainable way possible.”
NMA Newsmakers is series of videos from the National Mining Association devoted to showcasing the diverse range people and viewpoints in the U.S. mining industry.
