LETTER ARCHIVE 2000
November 29, 2000
Letter
to the Editor Salt Lake Tribune
Your story, "United States BLM requires
hardrock miners to post bond to clean up their messes" (November
28, 2000) doesn't disclose all of the ramifications of BLM's
new 3809 surface mining regulations, including the burdensome
cost to American taxpayers.

Letters
to the Editor Charleston Gazette
The Charleston Gazette's editorial (Warming,
Disasters Multiplying, May 16) suggests the coal industry is
set against taking any action on the issue of global climate
change. Nothing could be further from the truth.
March 30, 2000
Letter
to Forum of National Geographic Magazine
In the article,
"Hard Rock Legacy" (March 2000), you allow author T.H.
Watkins to repeat hyperbole, myths and unsupported stereotypical
accusations about the hardrock mining industry

Letter
to 60 Minutes
Your program on mountaintop mining and valley-fill
construction left the impression that these mining activities
are - and have been - illegal. On the contrary...
March 3, 2000
Letter
to the Editor: The Evansville Courier
John Blair's suggestion to eliminate coal as
an energy source is ridiculous, especially when he mentions "the
true cost to health, the environment, and the economy" as
the primary basis for his argument (Community Comment: "Coal
will exact high price on future, quality of life," Mar.
1).

Letter
to the Editor: Environmental Science & Technology Magazine
Your article, "NRC Supports Mining Law Reforms
Advocated by Interior Secretary Babbitt" (December 1, 1999),
was just plain wrong. Although Ms. Renner may have read Secretary
Babbitt's press release closely, she apparently did not read
the NRC report. Not only does the NRC Report not support Secretary
Babbitt's proposed rulemaking, it specifically states "...the
committee did not focus on the BLM proposal to revise its regulations."
